The Problem

The digital ads team needed to verify whether hundreds of client websites had consent banners in place, a compliance requirement for running ads. The process was fully manual: visit each site, check for the banner, and record the result in a spreadsheet. It consumed hours of skilled staff time and had to be repeated as sites changed.

The Solution

We built an automated scanner that visits every site on the list, detects whether a consent banner is present, and updates the team's tracking spreadsheet automatically, including the checkboxes.

Implementation

The scanner was built to handle the variety of ways consent banners are implemented across different platforms and site builders, reducing false negatives. It runs against the full site list on demand and writes results directly into the team's existing spreadsheet, so no workflow had to change.

Results

  • Daily planning went from a stressor to a five-minute routine

  • Fewer dropped follow-ups and missed commitments

  • Focus time protected for revenue-generating work

  • A system shaped to one person's business, not a one-size-fits-all app

Key Takeaways

Repetitive checking work is exactly what automation is for

Writing into existing tools beats introducing new ones

Compliance work doesn't have to consume skilled staff time

Recurring work becomes far more valuable to automate than one-time tasks
